COMPOSE is a three-year project whose main objective is to increase the share of renewable local energy sources in energy mix strategies and plans in 11 Mediterranean regions. The project builds on existing experience and know-how from previous projects and initiatives to provide a RES development planning synthesis model and therefore the increase thereof in energy mix of selected areas by promoting the development of local business in combination with the development of local added value chains. As a horizontal principle, the project consists of the knowledge, sectorial policies and financial instruments required to promote and invite green investments, based on local potentials. Altogether, COMPOSE will implement minimum 15 pilot activities aiming to promote, strengthen and increase the use of RES hand in hand with EE measures.

COMPOSE shall contribute to an increased sustainable RES planning capacity at the decisionmaking and planning-expert levels, whose main objective is to promote new business models and technology development to compose green economy by connecting local potentials to sustainable energy supply chains.

The Programme “New Channels for the Integration of TCNs in the local community” is implemented as a collaborative project by 5 Municipalities across Nicosia region, Nicosia Municipal Multifunctional Foundation and two companies. Through the implementation of the program ensure the development of relations of mutual trust and communication with individual TCNs and their organized groups, but also the participative ethos of TCN communities themselves. The Programme delivers multiple actions that support different dimensions of the process of integration of TCNs in Cypriot society, such as providing social support and orientation services, creating opportunities for participation in cultural events, sports activities and other forms of interaction with the local community and facilitating the networking and collaboration between associations and informal groups of TCNs with Local Authorities agencies and other local organizations.

The "Colorful Societies" project has been designed by local authorities to implement policies to integrate migrants into the Cypriot society. It is based on European practice for the most effective integration in a multicultural environment. Key players in the effort for applying inclusion policies are Local Authorities, with active participation of migrants themselves and their citizens. The project is co-funded by the Asylum, Migrant and Integration Fund and the Republic of Cyprus. The partnership consists of Aglantzia Municipality as the Lead Partner, Strovolos Municipality, Latsia Municipality, Idalion Municipality, Nicosia Development Agency (ANEL), the consulting company Opinion and Action Services Ltd and Strovolos Municipal Multi-Functional Foundation. The partnership also consists through representation by Nicosia Development Agency, the Municipalities of Engomi, Yeri and Tseri. The main objective of the project is to support actions by local authorities of the integration process of TCNs in Cypriot society, improving the capacity of social inclusion, cohesion, socialization and to prevent social exclusion.

The Green Infrastructure Network (GreenInfraNet) is a partnership of 11 regions across Europe. The GreenInfraNet project is a response to the challenge of biodiversity conservation in Europe and to the loss of valuable ecosystems and their services. The main objective of the project is to strengthen the development and implementation of green infrastructure in EU regions in order to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem services in close cooperation with other policy measures related to, for example, agriculture, urban development, transport, recreation and climate change adaptation.

The project’s main objectives are:

  • To identify the demographic, biological and environmental factors that promote healthy aging in the regions of Cyprus and Crete

  • To create a valid model to predict the variables that primarily help the successful Third Age in these regions.

  • To establish protocols and assessment tools to evaluate adults’ cognitive and psychosocial skills. These protocols and assessment tools will be widely available to mental health professionals aiming to ensure uniformity in the Greek area, on the evaluation procedures for the elderly.

For the first time, all Nicosia municipalities participate together to a common Action for the effective integration of TCNs in the local community.  The Action «New Channels for Integration» involves as series of services and activities to meet the basic needs of the immigrants and the hosting society. The services address children, teenagers, adults and parents of immigrants -Third Country Nationals (TCNs).The existing infrastructure and human resources of the local authorities are specific all utilised. At the same time, a growing number of activities like workshops and cultural events are implemented in order to create successful conditions of acquaintance, interaction and cooperation between Cypriots and immigrants.

The "Colorful Societies" project has been designed by local authorities to enhance the interactive process of integrating immigrants into the Cypriot society. It is based on European practice for the most effective integration in a multicultural environment. The project is a continuation of the same project that had been implemented for the Annual Programme 2011.

The main objective of the project is the involvement and active participation of the municipalities of Nicosia district towards the exploitation and use of socio-cultural services already offered, to their citizens, by third country nationals (TCNs). This would create social integration opportunities for the TCNs to the local context and interaction with local communities.
